It’s scary to think that most small firms and startup’s don’t get past their first few years, well at least that what the stat’s would have you believe.
Personally, I think the stats are wrong, that said there are some things you can do to make matters easier for you.
Do you remember when you were leading up to your first date, no
doubt nervous as hell. Not knowing whether she (in my case) would
say yes or no, worrying about the actual date – before she’d agreed.
It still sticks with me ‘like a suicide on the pavement’. Honestly.
I remember my first ‘self employed’ sales job, selling hand tools to
garages up north London. I was scared for weeks, not quite the same
as the first date – but bloody scared.
The reason for the worry. Fear of rejection, fear of not making the sale, fear of pissing people off. All of that, and then some.
It wasn’t until some years later when I learned some new techniques, and actually started to treat marketing as a core part of the business that this nervousness went.
Funny, but the better I got at marketing, the less fear I had and the
more sales I made. It’s the same now and it’s the same in your business.
All you need do is think about the process you’d go through to find a date, and use the same process to sell more of your widgets.
It’s simple, really. All you need is a different approach.
Of course sex on first date should not be expected, but there is no
harm in asking – just be prepared for a great big no. And quite
right as well.
